AREAS OF FOCUS
Education - STEM
We understand the importance of educating our youth in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Our future success, and the success of our customers, depend on a pipeline of highly capable technical talent.
We believe that advancing STEM education requires collaboration among industry, educators and families. AMA provides generous funding and volunteers to STEM education outreach activities for students ranging in age from elementary school through high school.
Spotlight: AMA supports the Hampton Education Foundation (HEF), a 501(c) (3) organization that supports Hampton City Schools. The Foundation’s work to-date has focused on improving the student experience and the educators who engage with students. HEF successes include more than $5,000 given in student scholarships to graduating seniors and $30,000 in grants awarded to educators. The AMA-HEF Golf fundraiser, which started in 2022, has raised more than $10,000 to date. Find out more about our upcoming bowling event here.
Public Outreach
AMA supports and participates in numerous public outreach initiatives including the Virginia Air & Space Science Center’s mission. We have contributed engineering and creative content for exhibits, sponsored events, given talks to support STEM education, and had staff members serve on the Board of Directors.
Our Local Communities
Historically, AMA has supported numerous organizations that serve our local communities including the YMCA. The YMCA Bright Beginnings initiative is a community outreach program that provides children in need with new clothes and school supplies to start the school year. AMA sponsors the program and many of our staff members volunteer as Shopping Buddies.
Spotlight - AMA is involved with An Achievable Dream (AAD). An Achievable Dream is a nationally recognized K–12 program dedicated to the belief that all children can learn and succeed regardless of their socioeconomic background. AAD is a unique partnership between Newport News Public Schools, the City of Newport News, and the local business community to provide students who are at risk of failure in school due to socioeconomic factors, a chance to succeed.
