We would like to add an Structural Analysis Engineer with structural analysis experience to our on-site team. The incumbent will support work in the mechanical design and structural & thermal systems branches at NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA.
Job Description
The candidate will perform structural finite element modeling and analysis support to the development of space vehicles. This will include thermo analysis tasks including but not limited to the following:
- Finite element modeling of structures utilizing MSC Nastran and MSC Patran. Structures will include various combinations of thermal protection material and honeycomb sandwich panels.
- In-depth 3-D modeling in areas of concern; near penetrations, highly curved shoulder areas, and attachments.
- Perform static and dynamic structural analyses, and steady state and transient thermal analysis, on the models above. Compare relative stiffness and strength behavior of the models.
- Perform sensitivity analysis in cases where material properties are not well defined. Assess several load cases to determine the most limiting.
- Perform post test structural analysis on test articles.
Education and Qualifications
- Position requires a bachelor's degree in aerospace, aeronautical, or mechanical engineering. Advanced degrees are a plus.
- Minimum 2 years work related experience.
- Finite element model structural analysis experience utilizing finite element modeling software. Thermal analysis experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of composite analysis is a plus.
