We are ready to add a Space Concepts Engineer to our on-site team. The incumbent will support conceptual design and modeling of spacecraft for lunar and Mars missions, and will be involved in a wide variety of related spacecraft and mission design activities with the Space Mission Analysis Branch at NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA.

Job Description

As a member of our Team supporting NASA Langley Research, your duties will include:

  • Team studies concerned with the design of vehicles and transportation systems for lunar and Mars mission architectures.
  • Assessment of lunar surface operation scenarios, making recommendations on alternate approaches or optimum ways to leverage existing resources.
  • Design and layout of space vehicles at the subsystem level; and modeling and simulation of spacecraft subsystems and subsystem interactions.
  • Creating or modifying existing software tools for modeling and simulation of spacecraft.
  • Working closely with NASA employees and other contractors in team studies of space systems or advanced space concepts. Range of team roles will vary from providing focused technical support or design ideas to providing deputy study leadership.
  • Providing technical documentation of analysis and study results. Briefing results to NASA representatives or other groups.

Relevant Experience

  • High motivation and excellent communication skills.
  • A passion for space.
  • Aerospace engineering background and strong skills in space vehicle and mission design.
  • Experience in risk and reliability assessment or model-based costing would be a plus.

Education and Qualifications

  • M.S. or B.S. in aerospace/aeronautical/mechanical engineering, or equivalent. Industry experience or advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Candidates with 2+ years industry experience desired.
  • Candidate must be willing to relocate to the Hampton, VA, area.
