We would like to add a Computational Fluid Dynamicist to our on-site team. The incumbent will support CFD simulations in support of interplanetary missions at NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA.

Job Description

The successful applicant will be involved in aero and aerothermodynamic analyses of planetary entry systems related to lunar and Mars exploration with the Atmospheric Flight and Entry Systems Branch at NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA.


Job duties include:
  • Surface geometry and/or grid generation with NASA and commercial tools.
  • Implementation of NASA flow solver codes and utilities to solve fluid dynamic problems. Experience with FUN3D, GASP, OVERFLOW, or LAURA preferred.
  • Use of visualization tools and a generalized knowledge of fluid dynamics to interpret computational results.
  • Providing technical documentation of analysis and study results. Briefing results to the client or other groups as necessary.

Relevant Experience

  • A high level of motivation and excellent communication skills.
  • An aerospace engineering background with strong skills in fluid mechanics and computational methods.
  • A passion for atmospheric flight and space exploration.
  • Experience in Matlab, Fortran, C/C++ and script programming a plus.

Education and Qualifications

  • M.S. or B.S. in aerospace/aeronautical/mechanical engineering, or equivalent. Advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Candidates with 2+ years industry experience desired.
  • Candidate must be willing to relocate to the Hampton, VA, area.
